I have found in my experience as a fitness trainer that most people already know how to exercise and eat right but most do not have a clue on how to stay motivated to lose weight. It is rather easy to gather information on training and dieting practices but the truth is that these strategies will not get you very far if you lose the motivation to actually do them. Unfortunately many people are too quick to believe motivation is something you either have or you do not have, but this could not be any further from the truth. There are many different strategies you can implement to enhance the probability you will stay motivated on your exercise and dieting regimen.
The number one thing I recommend to my clients is to make sure they get enough sleep throughout the night. Lack of sleep is going to naturally cause people to want to be lazy and this is a recipe for disaster if you are trying to work hard towards losing weight. This also means you should go to bed and wake up regularly at the same time everyday and to also make sure you do not get too stressed out. Stress can also influence you to cheat on your diet and skip workouts so you can do things like sitting on the couch watching television along with eating potato chips. If you find yourself getting too stressed then I would also recommend scheduling a short nap in the middle of the day.
Most people in general do not write down their goals and those who do are not very specific about them. The trick to writing productive goals is to make sure they are quantifiable so you can measure and track them. If you are able to consistently measure your goals then you will also be able to adjust your plan based on the results you are getting. Unfortunately most people who do have goals just have something very general such as lose more weight off their stomach. Instead measure your body fat percentage, weight and girth measurements and then plan reasonable goals that you can realistically accomplish.
Surrounding yourself with positive and encouraging people is another important step towards constantly improving your motivation to lose your weight. The more negative people who are in your life will naturally mean they will bring you down with them and your motivation will go out the window. Instead I would recommend eliminating these so-called friends from your life and search out encouraging and positive people. It will be increasingly more difficult to stay motivated to achieve your goals if the people around are constantly trying to bring you down.
Overall you are going to have to put in some hard work if you are expecting to stay motivated throughout your journey to lose weight. There are going to be some really hard times and once the initial motivation wears off it is going to be even more difficult. Start by implementing the above motivational strategies and keep them as important as your exercise and nutrition programming. Knowing all the training and dieting strategies in the world is never going to be as important as having the motivation to do them because without the latter the former will never be accomplished.
